How To Prepare For Cake Smash Session
Preparing your baby for a professional Cake Smash session is all about setting the stage for a fun and memorable experience. Here are some steps to ensure everything goes smoothly:

1. Start the session right after the nap time
I usually schedule baby’s cake smash session right after nap time and before their next big meal. This way, your little one is well-rested and more likely to dig into the cake since they won’t be too full to enjoy it.

2. Give Your Baby a Taste of the Cake Before the Session
It’s a good idea to let your baby try cake a few days before the session. This helps ensure they aren’t allergic to any ingredients and gets them excited for the cake smash. Give them a little taste and see how they react—it’ll make the big day even more fun!

3. Find the ways that make baby giggle
Babies have a natural sense of humor, so try out different things at home to see what makes your little one laugh. Make silly faces, play peek-a-boo, or fake a sneeze. These giggle triggers will be super helpful during the session, as I’ll use them to capture those precious, joyful moments.

4. Don’t over stimulate the baby during the session
Baby loves seeing mom and dad making silly noises and funny faces. But limit this task to just one parent and let the photographer do the entertaining job as well. So baby will not get super tired when everyone in the room (including grandparents and siblings) singing and making noises at the same time. Baby’s eyes will be too busy to focus on one person. Therefore I ask only parents come to the session with baby, while dad stay quietly on the side as a spotter, mom can stand right behind me at the same eye level, and try to get baby’s attention, that way we will have some cute laughing photos while baby is looking straight into camera.
Although a cellphone can be useful when baby is cranky, it can often cause too much of a distraction instead of calming the baby. I suggest parents to limit the cellphone use during the session, if baby is cranky due to new environment or being over stimulated, we can slow things down and let baby take a milk/snack break and finish the session when he/she feels better.

6. Monitor Your Baby’s Schedule
Babies can be unpredictable, especially with their sleep and feeding schedules. To plan ahead, book the Cake Smash session about four weeks in advance and monitor your baby’s routine as the session approaches. If baby’s nap time shifts, we will be able to adjust the session time to ensure everything goes smoothly.

By following these steps, you’ll help ensure your baby has a blast, and we will create beautiful photos for you to treasure.
